The average American household has thousands of different species of fungus and bacteria. Many are harmless, but some are important:
Some of them can help protect you, others can harm you.
Available NOW, the Home Biome Test kit will allow you to discover the biome of your home and learn how to optimize it for your family's health.
Each sample is inspected to ensure it contains enough material to obtain accurate results.
Each sample is processed to extract bacterial and fungal DNA.
The extracted DNA is replicated millions of times to provide sufficient material to analyze.
Each microorganism is DNA sequenced and compared to a reference sample to identify and categorize it.
Each unique home biome profile is compiled, analyzed, and then compared to the levels of fungi and bacteria in a standardized home.
Your final report is reviewed by our functional medicine team and includes action steps and recommendations to optimize your home biome.
By understanding your home biome, you can discover how your home environment impacts the health of you and your family. By making optimizations with the use of environmental probiotics, air purifiers, or other technologies, your home can take an active role in protecting your family's health.
Environmental Relative Moldiness Index (ERMI) tests use similar PCR technology for species identification, but are limited to identifying just 36 common types of mold. The Home Biome Test covers all of the major types of mold that ERMI tests do, plus everything else sampled as well. Our test uses the largest fungal DNA reference library in the world, checking for over 30,000 different types of mold. This test also identifies & quantifies bacterial organisms, and is intended to give a much more comprehensive picture of your home environment than a standard mold test is capable of. NOTE: this or any other home test should not be considered a substitute for a certified mold inspection when required for insurance and/or legal purposes.
Your samples will be tested by our laboratory at the Center for Medical Mycology, at the Cleveland Medical Center, using advanced quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and NGS DNA sequencing technology.
Yes! Each kit includes 6 collection swabs, which you can use anywhere you want to test. Please note that each kit generates ONE composite report, so if you would like multiple reports you will need to purchase multiple kits.
Knowing which areas are sampled will help us understand your test results, and can help us figure out unexpected results if any occur. In the future we hope to be able to offer breakdowns for each sampled location, but due to the cost of DNA sequencing that isn't possible at this time.
Each kit includes: 6 sterile collection swabs, a pre-addressed sample return envelope, usage instructions, and a unique registration ID that is removed and returned with your samples.
Yes! If you buy 2 or more kits, you will save $100 per kit. Maximum 4 per customer, contact us if you need more!
You can collect samples from any 6 surfaces of your choosing. These could include a shower ledge, around a faucet, under sinks, on window sills, and in HVAC ducts. The report will be a composite analysis based on all samples. NOTE: Each kit will generate 1 report comprising all of the areas sampled. If you would like separate reports for specific areas (eg. for different areas of your home, or your home plus a vehicle), you will need to order multiple kits.
Inside each test kit is a card with a unique registration ID. When you are ready to send your samples, visit the registration URL on the card to create a profile and register your kit.
Orders ship out within 1-2 business days, you will receive a tracking email when your kit ships!
